The Vampire Diaries (Brazil, a Vampire Diaries; [note 1] in Portugal, The Vampire Diaries) is an American television series of suspense, fantasy and romance developed by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec and based on the book series of the same name written by L. J. Smith. The series first season debuted on American television broadcaster by The CW on September 10, 2009, the second season on September 9, 2010 and debuted third on September 15, 2011.
On May 3, 2012 it was announced by The CW renewed the series for a fourth season. [1]
The series follows the events in the town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. A fictional small town haunted by supernatural beings. The main focus of the series is the love triangle between the protagonist Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) and brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). Both have a dark past. Later the light is thrown on the mysterious past of the town involving Elena"s ancestor mal�ovola, Katherine who seeks revenge against the town, the brothers and original, giving rise to vampires.
Elena has always been a great student, beautiful, popular and involved with school and friends. When the semester begins Elena becomes fascinated with the new kid in school Stefan Salvatore, a vampire 150 years. While Stefan struggles to live peacefully with humans, his brother Damon is the embodiment of violence and brutality.
The pilot episode attracted the largest audience in the history of the station since its debut in 2006. [2] The first season averaged 3.60 million viewers. The series was nominated for several awards, won a People"s Choice Award and seven Teen Choice Awards. On May 3, 2012 it was announced by The CW renewed the series for a fourth season to premiere on the 11th of October 2012.
