About Vikings: the series is inspired by the stories of invasions, trade and exploration of the Norse Scandinavia of medieval times. The series follows the exploits of legendary Viking leader Ragnar Lothbrok and his crew and family, as was notably established in the sagas Ragnars saga Lo�br�kar and Ragnarssona ��ttr of the thirteenth century, as well as in the work of the 12th century Grammarian Saxon Gesta Danorum. The Nordic legendary sagas were partially fiction tales based on the Norse oral tradition, written about 200 to 400 years after the events they describe. More inspirations are drawn from historical sources of the time, such as the records of the Viking attack on Lindisfarne portrayed in the second episode or the account of Amade ibne Fadalane on the Volga Vikings of the tenth century. The series takes place at the beginning of the Viking era, marked by the attack of Lindisfarne, in 793.
